PM Modi Inaugurates Dwarka Expressway Delhi Section & UER-II | Key Connectivity Boost for Delhi-NCR
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the 76-km Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) and the 29-km Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway, in what is being billed as a major infrastructure boost for the National Capital Region (NCR).
Built at a cost of about Rs 8,000 crore, the four-to-six-lane UER-2 connects Alipur to Mahipalpur via Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka. The new corridor is expected to significantly cut travel time between Indira Gandhi International Airport and several NCR cities.
1. Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)
Length: 75.71 km
54.21 km in Delhi
21.5 km in Haryana
Purpose:
Acts as a major bypass for Delhi’s traffic congestion.
Connects Gurugram, west Delhi, and south Delhi directly to NH-44, easing travel towards Chandigarh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Bypasses choke points like Dhaula Kuan and Delhi’s Ring Roads.
Cost: ₹6,445 crore
Sustainability: ~10 lakh metric tonnes of material recovered from Delhi’s landfill waste was reused in its construction.
Impact: Will decongest Delhi and cut travel time to northern states significantly.
2. Dwarka Expressway (Delhi Sections – Packages 3 & 4)
Total Length (newly opened): 10.1 km
Includes a 5.1 km tunnel connecting directly to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).
Purpose:
Strengthens Delhi-Gurugram connectivity.
Provides a seamless link from Dwarka to IGI Airport.
Earlier Sections: Packages 1 & 2 (Haryana section, 29 km between Mahipalpur and Kherki Daula on NH-48) were inaugurated by PM Modi in March 2024.
Special Feature: The tunnel is India’s first urban 8-lane access-controlled expressway tunnel of such scale, reducing travel time between Delhi and Gurugram drastically.
✅ Together, UER-II and Dwarka Expressway form part of the government’s comprehensive decongestion plan for Delhi-NCR, cutting travel times, reducing pollution, and improving direct access to IGI Airport and northern highways.
